What is a weather compensated heat curve?

A weather-compensated heating curve (often called weather compensation) is an intelligent feature found in modern heat pump systems. It automatically adjusts the temperature of the heating water based on the outside air temperature, raising it as it gets colder, and lowering it as it warms up. This ensures your home remains consistently comfortable while maximising energy efficiency and reducing costs.

How It Works

Traditional heating systems use a fixed water temperature regardless of weather, even when it's mild outside. However, weather compensation continuously adapts the flow temperature:

  • Colder outdoor temperatures → higher flow temperature to meet heat demand

  • Warmer outdoor temperatures → lower flow temperature to avoid overheating and wasted energy.

This responsive adjustment helps maintain a comfortable home and improves system efficiency.

Benefits of a Weather-Compensated Heating Curve

Energy Efficiency

Delivers only the heat needed for current conditions—minimising wasted energy.

Lower Heating Costs

By tailoring output to demand, running costs drop.

Consistent Comfort

Reduces temperature fluctuations, preventing under- or over heating.

Reduced Cycling & Wear

Gradual modulation means systems run steadier, reducing wear and tear.
